Invent Space were appointed to convert a former public house in to holiday cottages in the heart of the seaside town of Filey, North Yorkshire.

Whilst it has been suggested that pubs are being sold at a rate of 50 per week to be converted into Chinese takeaways, Doctors Surgeries and Offices, we felt an obligation to create a well designed building that would benefit the local community and become a new landmark in this popular seaside town.

We took the existing footprint and with clever design maximised the building potential by forming 4 independent units consisting of three two bedroom units and one three bedroom unit. All feature open plan living spaces to integrate visiting families and we have transformed a former storage yard into a multi functional external courtyard that is private, functional and fun to use.

Our design completely stripped out the former building leaving only the existing external walls that were then super insulated, damp proofed and plastered whilst being newly rendered externally to form a sharp crisp external appearance.

We included prominent design features in each unit to grasp users attention and form individual identity, glazed roofs and curved walls have successfully delivered this.

We utilised modern methods of construction to speed up the construction process by building a new upper floor to part of the building in timber frame which brought about speedy on site results which produced a well insulated thermally efficient building.

Natural light floods into all internal areas by the vast quantity of windows and glazed roof lights making using this building a real pleasure.

The feedback so far after only a few weeks of opening has been truly fantastic and we are sure many people will enjoy using this once run down and disused watering hole.
