Kentgate Place is a mixed-use development including 2 ground floor retail units and a 38 space car park for the adjacent hotel. It also contains a full range of 44 apartments from 1 & 2 bed affordable apartments, 2 bed open market apartments & 3 bed luxury penthouses with a secure basement car park for the apartments and the added extra of charging points for resident's mobility scooters. This met the demand for all the types of occupiers from 20 to over 80 years old. The site has a bus stop outside and is positioned between the town centre and the railway station, close to local facilities and transport links.

Full disabled access is provided to all parts of the building, with a lift to the upper floors of the apartments and to the basement car park. The retail units are designed for step-free access from adjacent street level.

An in-situ concrete first floor slab supported on in-situ concrete columns separates the retail units and hotel car park from the residential parts of the building above. These apartments are of timber frame construction (the Eleco system). One side of the building is adjacent to the River Kent and the in-situ concrete retaining wall forms a flood defence barrier.

The design of this building has attracted favourable comments from many people in Kendal, including the District Council's Planning Officer. The site had various historic uses from a brewery to parking, car garage & retail units. The use of local stone and natural slate has created a landmark building which echos the previous brewery building / adjacent hotel, takes advantage of the views over the river towards the town centre and the castle.
The site was derelict for many years with vacant buildings and was in need of regeneration. The construction of Kentgate Place has helped to regenerate the northern gateway to Kendal and makes a positive contribution to the town.
