The building, an 1864 warehouse with the facade of a Venetian Palazzo, was bought in an abandoned state by Dave Brewitt who together with Basia Chlebik of Archline design became builder, architect and designer. By complimenting the original shell of exposed brick work, pine beams, cast iron pillars and picture windows they eventually created an elegant and urbane 48 room hotel with restaurant and bar. An expansion four years later using the concrete skeleton of a 1970 building next door created 41 more rooms, offices, gym and two fifth and sixth floor event spaces with panoramic views of the city.

The extension includes a striking glass and limestone façade with a solid oak door way and specially commissioned glass lights.
The original interior design of the second phase of the hotel echoes the originals emphasis on simplicity and quality and this style is seamless across the old and new build.

This original interior design ethos was inspired by the size of the windows and west facing aspect flooding the rooms and bathrooms with natural light. The addition of solid wood floors including oak and birch, bespoke bedroom and bathroom furniture in cherry and walnut and large white bathroom tiles and plain white emulsion walls gives each room a delightful freshness and strong sense of quality and finish.

The operation of the hotel is also inspired by this ethos, the beds are left bare to show off the white Egyptian cotton sheets, the thick cream curtains add a softness and the under floor heating adds a comfort to the high shine of the floors.
The products that are complimentary in the room were chosen for their quality and brand match – Pellegrino and Panna water and REN toiletries.

The use of solid wood, coir matting and white walls throughout the public areas welcome guests with an unpretentious and friendly look we hope matches the service received.
