The brief was to extend a small cottage in Longnor in The Peak District.
Being a National Park, the external appearance was dictated by local context, and as such, materials had to be in-keeping with the existing cottage. Internally however, the clients were keen for the extension to be completely different in style. Typical of many cottages, low ceilings and small windows meant the existing rooms were somewhat dark. The brief therefore was to create a light, bright series of spaces, contemporary in style which offered an alternative type of living, contrasting with the 'cosy', cellular rooms of the original cottage.
Donald Architecture designed and delivered all aspects of the project, from superstructure through to furniture design. A structural engineer was the other project consultant.
