Friends of Ham, Ilkley
Friends of Ham is located in one of the most locally cherished buildings, just a stone’s throw from Ilkley Railway Station. The former Ilkley Gazette office is within the conservation area of the small Yorkshire town and contains unique architectural features and original details which made the project both exciting and challenging, together with the constraints of a very small footprint to work with.
However, these circumstances have resulted in the production of an exciting and unique retail concept, which has been tailored to reflect the history of the building and be sympathetic to the local area.
Friends of Ham began in 2012 with the opening of its first venue by husband and wife team, Claire and Anthony Kitching. Inspired by the ‘Jamon Bars’ of Spain, the growing London café culture and the craft beer bars of the USA.
Following the successful extension of the Leeds venue in the summer of 2014, Friends of Ham jumped at the opportunity to open their second venue within the beautiful town of Ilkley but with a marked difference, to expand and develop their retail offering to create a stand alone delicatessen as part of a social environment - seamlessly merging and creating a unique independent retail experience.
Showcasing a wide range of craft beer, wine, sherry, charcuterie and cheese, made by small artisan producers, both locally and from further afield. You will also find a wide selection of olives, breads, chutneys, etc in addition to a range of homeware and expertly crafted hampers.
Any item which is used on the bar menu can be purchased at the deli to take home, including growlers, so you can enjoy you favourite craft beer at home.
