Duncan Thorpe – Designer Overview:
A Mancunian Interior Designer, Graduating from UCLAN in 2007, Duncan Thorpe began his career as a Junior Designer at Core Design, cutting his teeth working for commercial pub companies such as M&B and Punch Taverns. After 12 months, he was given the opportunity to join Allison Pike Partnership, progressing into the role of a mid-weight designer and working for various commercial clients such as Hydes Brewery, Barracuda Group, Whitbread & JW Lees.
4 years later, Duncan was appointed as the new Senior Designer at Lister Carter, here he began to produce exciting and unique interiors due to the freedom given to him by both clients and his employer. It was during this spell where Duncan designed some of his first signature schemes, The Fishpool Inn, Delamere & The Oyster Catcher/Wills Bar, Rhosneigr, winning awards for them both.
In January 2014, Duncan was appointed as Senior Designer at Robinsons Brewery. Along with a team of talented in-house designers, Duncan began to produce design schemes which made others in the industry take notice of Robinsons newly refurbished Houses. The Farmers Arms, Poynton was the first pub of which got him notoriety by becoming a finalist in the Northern Design awards 2014 for Best Restaurant & Bar Design.
Robinsons venture back into managed houses allowed Duncan to design their new flag ship schemes without any restraints, resulting in his best designs to date. An extensive refurbishment of The Airport was completed in December 2014. The design scheme received wide critical acclaim, becoming a finalist in this year’s Restaurant & Bar Design Awards.
His latest design (Robinsons second managed house), The Bulls head, Hale Barns has become the latest ‘jewel in the crown’ for his employers. Completing in August this year, The Bulls Head is a perfect example of what a Cheshire Pub should be and is one he admits to be ‘most proud of’.
