Ian Smith Design is one of Scotland’s leading architectural interior design practices based in Edinburgh and London and accepts commissions for both residential and commercial projects throughout the UK. It is headed up by Ian Smith.
One of the practice’s recent commissions was The Adamson which is situated in the historic university town of St. Andrews. From 1907 to 2012 it served as the main post office in St. Andrews before becoming a restaurant and bar. Prior to it becoming a post office it was the home of Dr John Adamson, physician and a pioneer in early photography, hence the name.
Initially, the Adamson consisted of an award winning restaurant and a bar in the public area of the old post office. Since its opening the bar was proving to be popular with those who liked cocktails which gave the proprietors the impetus to acquire the old sorting room next door which was quite separate to provide more comfortable surroundings and provide an offering that is unique in St. Andrews.
