This 19th century country house, set in beautifully manicured lawns in the north of England, was purchased at a time when it was in need of much work.
We were commissioned to help our clients develop the house into a modern home. Our clients had strong design ideas which we discussed with them in regular meetings working together as a team.
As designers, we believe that the property dictates the style and that the clients’ needs and desires provide us with the direction.
Instinctively, we knew that the house needed to be opulent and glamorous, with both contemporary and classic design, whilst staying sympathetic to the house’s period. It was imperative that as well as aesthetically pleasing, the developments would be practical to suit the needs of a large family (including the hosting of social gatherings).
An extension was built with two levels. As a result of our team work with our clients (utilising our designing skills to realise their wishes), in the lower level of the extension, a large swimming pool, a conservatory area a steam room and seperate shower were built, and in the upper level, off the kitchen, an orangery and outdoor roof terrace (with its own outdoor kitchen, spa and dining area) were built. The orangery contains a metre-wide circular glass floor through which the pool below can be seen.
We also worked extensively inside the main house on the extremely impressive hallway and the rooms off it: the snug, the office and the large dining room and all of the upstairs bedrooms.
This project has been an interior designer’s dream, not just because of the house but also because of the freedom given to us by the client to create a home which is suited to them and the way they live.
